The second edition was opened by a new concert format, in which the art of song met poetry slam in an entertaining competition with public voting.

The renowned soprano Rachel HARNISCH and German pianist Jan Philip SCHULZE gave a breathtaking recital from the beginning of art song with Franz SCHUBERT, concluding with George CRUMBS Apparition.

The main focus was led on women composers celebrating the 200th birthday of Clara SCHUMANN in 2019: The lecture with actress Barbara TERPOORTEN revealed details about Alma MAHLER, Fanny MENDELSSOHN, and Clara SCHUMANN; the documentary KOMPONISTINNEN was shown in the cinema of Brig and the recital ZIERDE ODER MEISTERIN by Franziska HEINZEN and Benjamin MEAD included nearly 20 composers from the romantic period until the contemporary song was recorded by Swiss radio station SRF2 Kultur. It will be broadcast in September 2019.

The festival closed with an open-air concert on 2005 meters in the middle of the Swiss mountains, combining SCHUBERTS Shephard on the rocks with Swiss Folk tunes, both inspired by nature and the longing for love and release.

The festival was opened by the young Swiss baritone Äneas HUMM and the internationally renowned pianist Hartmut HÖLL with a deep romantic program by Schumann, Wolf, and Grieg. The Swiss Bass bariton Manuel POLLINGER presented a song concert for children, together with the pianist Meta CERV and young dancers from Tanz A+O, who illustrated the dances of ghosts and elves.

Franziska HEINZEN and pianist Benjamin MEAD dedicated their recital to the world-renowned poet Rainer Maria RILKE, who is buried not far from Brig. The concert was recorded and broadcast by the Swiss Radio Station SRF 2 KULTUR. You can still listen to the recording via this link or read the review of the concert here.

The festival ended at the river RHONE with short open-air concerts in Mühlebach, Obergesteln, and Gampel. Below you can watch a short documentary about this adventure.
