ART SONG MEETS POETRY SLAM
The second RHONEFESTIVAL was opened by a new concert format, in which the art of song met poetry slam in an entertaining competition with public voting.
OUTSTANDING RECITAL BETWEEN HEAVENLY SOUNDS AND DEEPEST DESIRE
International renowned Swiss soprano Rachel HARNISCH and German pianist Jan Philip SCHULZE gave a breathtaking recital from the beginning of art song with Franz SCHUBERT, concluding with George CRUMBS Apparition.
THE 200TH BIRTHDAY OF CLARA SCHUMANN
The main focus was led on women composers celebrating the 200th birthday of Clara SCHUMANN in 2019: The lecture with actress Barbara TERPOORTEN revealed details about Alma MAHLER, Fanny MENDELSSOHN, and Clara SCHUMANN; the documentary KOMPONISTINNEN was shown in the cinema of Brig and the recital ZIERDE ODER MEISTERIN by Franziska HEINZEN and Benjamin MEAD included nearly 20 composers from the romantic period until the contemporary song was recorded by Swiss radio station SRF2 Kultur. It will be broadcast on September 2019.
SCHUBERT IN MIDST THE SWISS MOUNTAINS
The festival closed with an open-air concert on 2005 meters in the middle of the Swiss mountains, combining SCHUBERTS Shephard on the rocks with Swiss Folk tunes, both inspired by nature and the longing for love and release.
SUMMER CONCERT WITH SWISS POETS / COMPOSERS
The new summer concert on the eve of the Swiss National day (31.7.) discovers and promotes Swiss Poets and Composers. This year’s concert is dedicated to Swiss Poet Gottfried KELLER – famous through his novel A VILLAGE CALLED ROMEA AND JULIET –, who is celebrating his 200th birthday. Among others, the 12 poems of his cycle OLD TALES were performed in music by Hugo WOLF, Hans SOMMER, Hans PFITZNER, and Felix WEINGARTNER.
The festival was opened by the young Swiss baritone Äneas HUMM and the internationally renowned pianist Hartmut HÖLL with a deep romantic program by Schumann, Wolf, and Grieg.
The Swiss Bass bariton Manuel POLLINGER presented a song concert for children, together with the pianist Meta CERV and young dancers from Tanz A+O, who illustrated the dances of ghosts and elves.
HOMMAGE TO THE POET RAINER MARIA RILKE
Franziska HEINZEN and pianist Benjamin MEAD dedicated their recital to the world-renowned poet Rainer Maria RILKE, who is buried not far from Brig. OPEN AIR CONCERTS
The festival ended at the river RHONE with short open-air concerts in Mühlebach, Obergesteln, and Gampel. Below you can watch a short documentary about this adventure.
